COURCHEVEL IN SUMMER
Courchevel is one of the most beautiful of summer resorts . Situated in the French alps, it offers an abundance of activities, from rock climbing and golf to walking and mountain biking. Cattle graze on the pasture just above the chalet. The wonderful sound of cow bells ringing can be heard from the chalet. During the summer there are many traditional fetes and activities that happen around Courchevel. There is also a music festival and a fireworks competition that takes place during the summer.
Within a ten minute walk from the chalet is a very large part indoor and part outdoor swimming pool. This also has a paddling pool for little people, with a lovely grassy sitting out area. Lessons are available here. In the same area there are 8 hard tennis courts. Again lessons can be organised with a pro. Or just enjoy a knock up amongst your selves.
Close by the swimming pool complex is an area for learning to rock climb and absailing. This is under the supervision of an instructor. There is also a chance to learn archery. There are many wonderful walks in and around the area of Courcheval. There are excellent maps to guide walkers, with suggestions for 16 walks in the Courchevel area. The mountain biking area is huge, with some suggested runs of 100km. These take you through some breathtaking areas all around the 3 valleys. Eagles can very often be seen, as well as marmots, deer and a host of other animals. The wild flowers are spectacular and carpet the mountain slopes.
Golf is very popular with a beautiful course to be been found on the famous Verdons ski run. It is so immaculate it is hard to believe that it has been part of a well skied area during the winter months. There is a further golf course in Meribel . Again this is in the most beautiful position.
During walks or bikes around the mountains farms and fermsd'alpage can be visited and cheeses can be bought here from the makers.
Other activities include, summer tobogganing, paragliding, rafting, riding and via ferrata. There are some good mountain restaurants open, so ideal for a lunch stop during a walk or bike ride. The Tour de France often comes through Courchevel. This is a spectacular sight.
Lifts open from the on the 4th July and most close 29 th August. There is also a free shuttle bus service offered between the different villages of Courchevel.
